About Manifest Destiny
Manifest Destiny was the 19th century American belief and informal campaign that the United States (and more specifically, the Anglo-Saxon race) was destined to expand across the North American Continent, from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The term, used by Democrats in the 1840's, seemingly justified the war with Mexico. The concept was denounced by Whigs and was rarely used after the mid-19th century.
