What is a firework made out of?

Rate This Answer

Fireworks are made out of gunpowder, which contains sulfur, charcoal and nitrate to name a few ingredients. When the fuse is ignited, a chemical reaction occurs causing an explosion that produces the effects we know and love. Various chemicals are added to create colors, such as iron oxide for red and copper sulfate for blue. The creation of fireworks is credited to the Chinese in the 7th century to ward off evil spirits.
