What is Flag Day?
Flag Day is not an official federal holiday, though in 1937, PA was the 1st (and only) state to celebrate it as a state holiday. During National Flag Week, the president issues a proclamation urging citizens to fly the American flag for that week. It commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the U.S. flag on June 14th by resolution of the 2nd Continental Congress. Falls on April 14th. In 2011, it is on Tuesday, June 14 and for 2012 on Thursday, June 14.

About Flag Day
In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14, commemorating the adoption of the flag of the United States in 1777 by the Second Continental Congress. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation to officially establish June 14; in 1949, Congress established National Flag Day. Earliest observances of Flag Day date back to 1861 in Hartford, Connecticut. While it is not an official Federal Holiday, it is recognized by Pennsylvania as a state holiday. Pennsylvania's celebrations are held at the Betsy Ross House.
