Mononucleosis, also known as "kissing disease" and mono are all names describing an illness caused by the Epstein-Barr virus, or (EBV). The name mononucleosis refers to the increase of lymphocytes in the bloodstream compared to other parts of the blood due to an EBV infection. EBV is a herpes virus, and infection symptoms include, fever, fatigue, malaise, swollen lymph glands and sore throat. Mono is transmitted through saliva and close contact.
