Mardi Gras is a hugely popular event and holiday celebrated to commemorate the last full day before Ash Wednesday during the season of Lent. Known also as Fat Tuesday, it is famous for parades in New Orleans and a night of hedonistic living.
About Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, which occurs 46 days before Easter. It is preceded each year by Fat Tuesday, also known as Mardi Gras. Ash Wednesday is on March 9 this year (2011).
