Who won the indy 500 this year?
2011 Indy 500 results: 5 lead changes in last 13 laps! Rookie Hildebrand slammed into wall on last turn and Dan Wheldon drove past him to claim improbable victory: 1) Dan Wheldon 2) J.R. Hildebrand, 3) Graham Rahal, 4) Tony Kanaan, 5) Oriol Servia. 2010 winner Dario Franchitti finished in 12th. Danica Patrick finished 10th after leading late.

About Indy 500
The Indianapolis 500 is the world’s most famous and prestigious auto race. It has taken place annually since 1911 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway except for 1917-18 and 1942-45 during America’s participation in world wars. ''The Greatest Spectacle in Racing'' covers 500 miles, or 200 laps, on the famous 2.5-mile oval. The Indy 500 is the world's largest single-day spectator sporting event.
About Dan Wheldon
Born in 1978, Dan Wheldon was an IndyCar driver from England that was the Indy 500 runner-up in 2009 and 2010. He won the 2005 and 2011 Indy 500 and IZOD IndyCar Series championship. He raced for Bryan Herta Autosport. Wheldon died on October 16, 2011 in a multi-car crash at the IndyCar race in Las Vegas. It was ruled that the cause of death was severe head trauma from the crash. He is survived by his wife, Susie, and his two sons, Sebastian and Oliver.
About Dario Franchitti
Dario Franchitti is a three-time IndyCar Series champion and two-time Indy 500 winner, racing for Target Chip Ganassi Racing. Franchitti will return in 2011 for his third season alongside teammate Scott Dixon. Franchitti is a Scotland native but currently living in Nashville, TN, and is married to actress Ashley Judd.
