Why are there skunks?

Some will say the skunk, or any living creature, needs not a purpose. A skunk has every right to live, to procreate, to stink. He eats things that help keep America beautiful and safe. He will even eat black Widow Spiders and other dangerous insects such as the reclusive, albeit Brown Recluse Spider.
