It is not entirely clear what causes vitiligo, but it is believed to be an auto-immune disorder where the body attacks the melanocytes, the specialised skin cells that manufacture the skin pigment melanin. i have virtiligo but because my skin is only tanned it isnt as visable as michaels was.
