Why do girls get cramps when theyre on their period?

Rate This Answer

Some women experience pain as their uterus begins to contract and get rid of the excess tissue that is inside of it. These hormones signal for the uterus---a muscle---to contract so that it can release the tissue from within it so that it can prepare to host a possible pregnancy next month. These contractions can cause cramps. ChaCha!

Menstrual cramps are caused by uterine contractions (when your uterus tightens and relaxes allowing blood to leave your uterus).

Cramps are caused by prostaglandins, chemicals your body produces, that makes the muscles of the uterus contract.
