The function of dreams is to compensate for those parts of the psyche (total personality) that are underdeveloped in waking life.
Some say dreams serve no real purpose, & some believe dreaming is essential to mental, emotional & physical well-being. ChaCha on!

One possibility is that dreaming allows you the opportunity to practice things you may or may not ever have to do. Ex Running away
