There are many theories about why people yawn.One is that when we are bored or tired, we just don't breathe as deeply as we usually do. Therefore, yawning helps us bring more oxygen into the blood and move more carbon dioxide out of the blood.

It isn't known just why we yawn--mainly because it's never been a problem. One can start yawning just 1 week after conception!

Scientists do not know all of the mechanisms of the yawn, but agree that a yawn is a necessary involuntary respiratory reflex.
