AC-DC

AC-DC

AC/DC is an Australian rock and roll band that was formed in 1973 by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young. AC/DC is one of the biggest bands in rock music history and is known for releasing the critically acclaimed albums 'Highway to Hell' and 'Back in Black.'

About AC-DC

Angus and Malcolm Young formed AC/DC in 1973 in Sydney, Australia. They recruited vocalist Dave Evans, bassist Larry Van Kriedt, and drummer Colin Burgess to round out the band. The name was developed after the Youngs' sister saw AC/DC etched on the side of a sewing machine. It stands for alternating current/direct current.

In 1974, AC/DC fired Dave Evans and hired vocalist Bon Scott. They released the albums 'High Voltage' and 'TNT' in 1975.

In 1976, AC/DC signed an international record deal with Atlantic Records and went on a massive tour of Europe opening up for bands like Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Styx and Kiss.

AC/DC became a household name in 1980 with the release of their mega successful album 'Back in Black.' It has sold over 49 million copies worldwide and contains the singles Back in Black, You Shook Me All Night Long, Hells Bells and Have a Drink On Me.

Also in 1980, vocalist Bon Scott died after a long night of heavy drinking. The band considered breaking up but instead hired Brian Johnson who remains the singer to this day.
