Aminu committed to Wake Forest in 2007. Aminu choose Wake over Georgia Tech. During his freshman campaign, Aminu was a unanimous selection for the ACC All-Freshman Team. Aminu averaged 13 points and 8.3 rebounds a contest during his freshman season.

Aminu declared for the NBA Draft on April 1, 2010, and was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2010 NBA Draft with the 8th overall pick.
