Alan Roger Davies (born 6 March 1966) is an English comedian, writer and actor best known for starring in the TV mystery series Jonathan Creek and as the permanent panellist on the TV panel show QI.

Alan Roger Davies (born 6 March 1966) is an English comedian, writer and actor best known for starring in the TV mystery series Jonathan Creek and as the permanent panellist on the TV panel show QI. He also appeared in the teen comedy film Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging. Davies was born in Loughton, Essex. His childhood years were spent in Chingford. Davies' mother died when he was six; he was subsequently raised along with an older brother and younger sister by his father, an accountant. Davies attended Staplse Road School in Loughton and was privately educated at the independent Bancroft's School in Woodford Green, where he gained eight O-Levels.
