About Anne Hathaway

Known for: Actress in Alice in Wonderland’, Valentine’s Day’ and The Princess Diaries’

A trained stage actress, Anne Hathaway has stated that the stage feels more comfortable to her than making movies. One would never guess as she has graced the big screen numerous times in starring roles.

The Oscar-nominated actress began her career on screen in a television series called Get Real’ in 1999. She became widely recognized soon after when she played the part of Mia Thermopolis, the heir to the throne of Genovia starring opposite Julie Andrews in The Princess Diaries’ (2001). Hathaway continued making films that were family-oriented such as Nicolas Nickleby’ (2002), Ella Enchanted’ (2004) and Hoodwinked’ (2005). Later in 2005, Anne broke out of her mold and took on the role of Lureen Newsome in the controversial film, Brokeback Mountain’, which also starred Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhall and Michelle Williams.

In 2008 Anne Hathaway made headlines, but for all the wrong reasons. On June 2008 Hathaway’s ex-boyfriend Raffello Follieri was arrested on fraud charges after being accused of swindling investors out of millions of dollars. Follieri was found guilty and sentenced to prison. Anne had broken up with Follieri weeks previous when his scandals began surfacing. Hathaway was found to have had no part in the events. She bounced back from the situation with help from co-star Steve Carell during the filming of Get Smart’ (2008).

2010 proved to be a busy year for the actress. She was seen on screen in the film Valentine’s Day’ (2010) with an all-star cast including Taylor Lautner, Ashton Kutcher, Jennifer Garner, Julia Roberts and George Lopez. She also played the role of the White Witch in Tim Burton’s 3-D adaption of Alice in Wonderland’ (2010) with Johnny Depp. Anne also lent her voice to the animated sitcoms Family Guy’ and The Simpson's’ and will once again be seen onscreen with Jake Gyllenhaal in a romantic comedy called Love and Other Drugs’ (2010).

In 2010 Hathaway’s name was once again brought up in connection with scandal, this time as a victim. Maria Gabriella Perez, a skin-care specialist, was charged with using credit card information from her celebrity clients. Perez was found to have spent almost $300,000 using the stolen credit card numbers. Anne Hathaway was one of those clients as well as Jennifer Aniston and Liv Tyler.
