About Apple, Inc

Apple Inc. is an American multinational computer hardware, software and personal computing company. They are also the creator of several hand held phone and multimedia devices that are popular all over the world.

Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne started Apple in 1976, but Wayne left after only a year. The company focused on personal computing with an easy interface and powerful graphics, so with the advent of spreadsheets and then desktop publishing, the Apple Computer slowly began to create a powerful niche in the computer market. In 1984 they aired an award winning commercial during the Superbowl, directed by Ridley Scott, that used imagery from George Orwell’s novel 1984’ to paint IBM as the old dominating corporation and Apple as the young fresh company. The Apple computer was aggressively marketed to schools all over the U.S. and soon became the standard computer for educational institutions.

In 1985 Jobs left the company but returned in 1997. The company retooled and released the iMac in 1998, followed up in 2001 by a brand new operating system, Mac OS X. They began opening Apple retail stores, and introduced the iPod, which became the dominating product world wide for personal multimedia entertainment.

In 2007 Jobs announced that the company would change its name from Apple Computer Inc. to Apple Inc. and then released an iPhone and the Apple TV. In 2010 they released a new tablet computer called the iPad.

While Microsoft definitely dominates the personal computer market, Apple computers have a strong and devoted following due to some aesthetic differences in their system that appeal to more creative customers. Apple has a level of brand loyalty for its products that few businesses in any industry have achieved.
