Known for: His excellent pitching and sportsmanship when umpire Jim Joyce mis-called a hit and cost Galarraga a perfect game

Galarraga originally signed with the Montreal Expos as a free agent, then was acquired by the Rangers. He was traded to the Detroit Tigers on February 5, 2008.

On June 2, 2010 he was on his way to a perfect game when umpire Jim Joyce made a bad call. After viewing tapes of the game, Joyce apologized in tears and Galarraga forgave him, making him famous for his gracious sportsmanship. The incident renewed calls for review of tapes in the case of crucial calls.
