About Ask to Prom

The prom, or 'promenade', is an American tradition. Each spring, high school juniors and seniors (and some younger classmates) look forward to attending the prom. (At least most of them; some high schoolers take pleasure in scorning the prom.) For every person worried about who they will ask and how they will ask, there is another person agonizing over who will or won't ask them.

Many teens get over-anxious about the prom and can't decide who to ask, and end up missing all the fun. Others have the mistaken idea that this will be the best night of their lives and are inevitably disappointed. When thinking about who to invite to the prom, the important thing is to be creative and have fun! In 2010 two identical twin sisters invited two identical twin brothers to be their dates. The girls wore white and the boys wore black. The North Dakota sisters are looking forward to their evening!

The event itself is usually a black-tie affair, where the boys wear tuxes or at least a suit, and the girls wear formal dresses. A boutonniere is required for the guy; the guy has to buy the girl flowers for a wrist corsage. The dance is usually a combined affair between the junior and senior classes. Each class in its turn has the responsibility for planning the prom; usually it's the junior class who does this.

As concerns over under-age drinking and deaths caused by drunken teenage drivers have multiplied, it is common for a group of teens to pool their funds and hire a limousine so no one has to drive. The teens often get special permission to stay out all night and have breakfast together before coming home and collapsing.
