Avril got her start after an A&R representative invited Arista Records head Antonio Reid to an audition in New York in 2000. After hearing her sing, he immediately offered her a record deal worth $1.25 million for two albums.

She released her first album, 2002’s 'Let Go,' to instant success. The album climbed to #2 on the Billboard charts and #1 on the Australian, UK, and Canadian charts. The album’s first single ''Complicated'' was featured on the teen show 'Dawson’s Creek.' ''Complicated'' was followed by the singles ''Sk8er Boi'' and ''I’m with You.'' 'Let Go' was nominated for eight Grammy Awards.

Avril posed for the cover of Maxim magazine in 2004.

In 2005, she release her second album, 'Under My Skin.' It featured the singles ''Don’t Tell Me,'' ''My Happy Ending,'' and ''Nobody’s Home.''

In 2007, Lavigne released he third album, 'The Best Damn Thing.' The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts and contained the singles ''Girlfriend'' and ''When You’re Gone.''

Lavigne married Sum 41 lead singer Deryck Whibley in 2007 and they later divorced in 2009.

In October 2010, Lavigne again posed for Maxim Magazine. She was featured on the November 2010 cover.

Avril's fourth album 'Goodbye Lullaby' is set for release on March 8, 2011. The first single is called ''What the Hell.''
