About Bon Jovi

Bon Jovi got its start in 1983 when Jon Bon Jovi called good friend David Bryan about starting a band. Jon had recently recorded a demo song that got some airplay on a local radio station and he felt it was time to start an official band. Bon Jovi’s original line-up included Jon Bon Jovi, David Bryan, Tico Torres, Alex Such and Dave Sabo. Sabo was soon replaced by Richie Sambora. Such also departed the band in 1984.

The band released ita debut album, Bon Jovi’ on January 21, 1984. The first hit single Runaway was a hit in Japan and also reached the Billboard Top 40 in the United States. Their second album 7800° Fahrenheit’ also became popular in Japan. Despite mediocre sales, the album was certified gold and the band headed out on tour.

Determined to break through to the U.S. market, Bon Jovi released Slippery When Wet.’ This time the formula proved to be magical. The first single from the album, You Give Love a Bad Name reached the number one slot on the Billboard Hot 100. Living on a Prayer also topped the charts hanging on to the top spot for four weeks. The third single Wanted Dead or Alive dominated the charts and still remains a top song today.

Having found their niche in the music world, Bon Jovi continued its path rocking venues all over the world. MTV played their videos constantly, radio stations kept them on regular rotation and fans blasted the songs in their homes. Fame and constant touring took a toll on the band and in 1990, they decided it was time for a break. During this time, members worked on some solo projects. The band came back together to record two more albums but then went on another hiatus in 1997.

In 1999, the band came back together much to the delight of fans. They recorded the single It’s My Life which they felt was a symbol of all the band’s ups and downs, successes and failures. The song was featured on the album Crush’ which received two Grammy nominations.
