Bowling

Bowling

Bowling is a sport where players score points by knocking pins down at the end of an alleyway. The pins are knocked down with a heavy ball that is rolled by hand.

About Bowling

The most common form of bowling is Ten-Pin Bowling where 10 pins are set in a pyramid at the end of a wooden lane. The object is to hit the pins in such a way as to maximize the number that have fallen over as a result of the heavy ball being rolled at them. Each game consists of 10 frames. Each frame gives the player two attempts to knock all the pins down. If the pins are all knocked down on the first attempt, it is called a strike. If they are all knocked down on the second attempt, it is referred to as a spare. The first standardized rules of the sport were established in 1895, although it is believed bowling is as old as 300 A.D. The sanctioning body of bowling is called the Professional Bowlers Association, or the PBA.
