Breaking Benjamin

Breaking Benjamin

Breaking Benjamin is an American rock band from Wilkes-Barre, PA. Band members include vocalist Benjamin Burnley, guitarist Aaron Fink, drummer Chad Szeliga, and bassist Mark Klepask.

About Breaking Benjamin

Ben Burnley started his music career well before the formation of Breaking Benjamin. Ben performed in coffee houses and other small venues under the name Benjamin. The name Breaking Benjamin came about after playing a Nirvana cover song. Ben knocked over and cracked a borrowed microphone at the end of the performance, and the microphone’s owner walked onto the stage and said, I'd like to thank Benjamin for breaking my microphone.

Burnley and present lead guitarist Aaron Fink joined Nick Hoover and Chris Lightcap and started the band Breaking Benjamin in 1998. Ready to try something different, Ben went to California to find new material. The short visit convinced him to move back to Pennsylvania where he started a band by the name of Plan 9 with drummer Jeremy Hummel. The band started as a three-piece with bassist Jason Divoli. During an opener show for the band Lifer, Ben said Thank you, we’re Breaking Benjamin, and thus reclaiming the name from 1998.
