About Brian Urlacher

Urlacher wished to attend Texas Tech University, but the university did not offer him a football scholarship. Texas Tech University had a large fan base in the area Urlacher attended highschool, but offered a majority of their scholarhips to Texas highschool players. He chose to attend the University of New Mexico.

He played more as a sophomore when the University of New Mexico finished with a 9-3 record and captured the Western Athletic Conference Mountain division title, but eventually lost 41-13 to Colorado State University in the WAC Championship Game.

He recorded 422 tackles, the third most in the school’s history, three interceptions, eleven forced fumbles and sacks. He was also the team’s return specialist and clutch wide receiver, catching seven passes for six touchdowns.[2] Urlacher also earned several honors during his collegiate career, named an All-American by Sports Network, Walter Camp, Football Writers Association of America, and the Associated Press.

During the 2000 NFL Draft, Urlacher was selected by the Chicago Bears with the ninth pick in the first round.
