Brook Lopez is a 7'0, 265lb American basketball player of Cuban-American descent. Growing up, Brook and his twin brother, Robin, were raised around basketball. His grandfather played at the University of Colorado, and his older brother, Alex, played at the University of Washington. Both Brook and Robin were named to the 2006 McDonald's All-American team.

From 2006-2008, Lopez played college basketball for Stanford. While with Stanford, Lopez was given the 2007 All-Pac 10 Honorable Mention, while averaging 12.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. On the same day, March 31, 2008, both Brook and Robin declared themselves for the NBA.

After playing all 82 games of the regular season, Brook finished third in the NBA Rookie of the Year vote tally, and was named to the NBA All-Rookie first team.
