Brooke Smith (born May 22, 1967) is an American actress. She is best known for her role on the TV show Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Erica Hahn and for her role as Catherine Martin in the 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs. Brooke Smith was born in New York, the daughter of publisher Gene Smith and publicist Lois Smith, who has worked with Robert Redford and other actors and directors. Her high schooling was done at Tappan Zee High School in Orangetown/ Blauvelt, NY. She attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, but by her own admission, was not asked back for the second year of study. She shared an apartment with Jeff Buckley before he recorded Grace.
