Buffalo Niagara International Airport is an airport located in Cheektowaga, in Erie County, New York, USA. It is named after the Buffalo Niagara Falls metropolitan area. The airport serves Buffalo, New York as well as Southern Ontario, Canada. It is the busiest airport in Upstate New York, and the third busiest in New York State by number of boardings, after New York City's LaGuardia Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport. The Buffalo Municipal Airport (as it was then known) opened in 1926 on former farmland, making it one of the oldest public airports in the country. The first passenger service, to Cleveland, began in 1927.
