People who reside in Charlotte are often called ''Charlotteans.''
Over the years, Charlotte has emerged as a major player in the U.S. financial arena, now stepping in as the second largest banking center in the United States, second only to New York. Companies such as Bank of America and Wells Fargo (formerly Wachovia) call Charlotte home, as well as many sports affiliated organizations. The city is home to the Carolina Panthers football team, the Charlotte Bobcats basketball team, the NASCAR Hall of Fame and the U.S. National Whitewater Center.
