Chat

Chat

Chat is used to describe quick informal communication between people over the Internet, over networks and through cell phones (also called texting). Chatting can use short abbreviated language but it can also be complete words and sentences. Chat can also refer to a short conversation in between two or more people in person.

About Chat

Chat is an abbreviated form of 'chatter' and usually used to describe text conversations over the internet or between cell phones. Most chat users know and regularly use shorthand or abbreviated language to talk. Chat users will write emails, instant messages, blog comments, and post in forum/chat discussions using these abbreviations. Because they are very short, abbreviations are particularly common in cell phone texting.

In most situations, chat lingo is not suitable for formal and business communications. But these abbreviations can be a fun way to add flavor and speed up typing in personal and informal conversations. What's really amazing is the depth of vocabulary that has been built up over the years.
