Child birth is an event in which a new human being emerges from its mother. For human mothers birth has become less dangerous, but even with modern medicine there are risks to child birth. A healthy birth is more likely if the mother gets under a doctor's care as soon as she knows she is pregnant.

Filipino cyclists join activists of rights group Amnesty International in a 78km bicycle tour of Metropolitan Manila in an annual Bike for Rights ride in Quezon City, suburban Manila, on December 4, 2011. Around 500 cyclists took part in this year's ride with the theme ' Not one more! End Maternal Mortality!'. Amnesty International appealed to the Philippine government and governments around the world to prioritize protection of women and girls from sexual violence and preventable maternal deaths. Preventable maternal deaths, or untimely deaths of women and girls caused by complications of child-birth, remain as one of the biggest problems affecting women in the Philippines and most developing countries around the world.
