Christmas Stockings are a wonderful addition to your holiday décor. They are made so many different and colorful ways. Christmas stockings are a favorite among children because they usually hold little gifts and sweet treats. For hundreds of years children have been hanging them in hopes of having St. Nicholas fill them on Christmas Eve.

About Christmas Stocking

The Christmas stocking tradition is said to have begun in ancient times when a nobleman lost his fortune leaving his three daughters without a dowry and no hopes for marriage. St. Nicholas heard of the daughters' plight and filled their stockings with gold coins to ensure their marriages. Children have been hanging stockings ever since.

Christmas stockings are usually filled with stocking stuffers which are usually little gifts that don’t need to be wrapped. They can be just about anything from matchbox cars to candy. But beware, if you were naughty through the year, your stocking could be filled with coal!

The Christmas stocking can become a holiday project for you and your family, especially if you have children. You can make easy handmade stockings from felt for each family member and have a blast decorating them for each other. You can also make Christmas stockings as gifts for elderly neighbors with no family or kids in your nearby hospital, a great way to teach children about giving.
