The infamous contact lenses that make your eyes appear doll-like have become a rage in the U.S including many other parts of the world within the last few years. The Federal Government warns that these contacts might cause severe damage, which could be permanent. Lady Gaga helped bring this trend to the forefront in her 'Bad Romance' video.

About circle lenses

Teens and young adults may be endangering their sight and even causing blindness by wearing the cosmetic lenses known as 'circle lenses'. Lady Gaga wears them in her 'Bad Romance' music video; they enlarge the eyes and give a 'doe-eyed' look to the wearer.

The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) warned in a statement released July 6, 2010 that circle lenses are 'an emerging and potentially dangerous trend among teenagers and young adults'. In the United States cosmetic lenses are considered medical devices and can only be obtained through licensed eye care professionals. Many teens are ordering the lenses online and bypassing such restrictions.

The circle lenses extend beyond the iris and make the eye look larger. The AAO stated that inflammation and pain can occur from improperly fitted, over-the-counter lenses and lead to more serious problems including corneal abrasions and blinding infections.
