A city is a word used to define a large urban settlement. The distinction between a village, town and city is usually determined by population count, government and amenities offered but can vary from country to country and even state to state. A city normally has a fairly large population with business and residential areas, school systems and advanced sanitation and utility facilities.

The largest city in the world is Shanghai, China with an estimated population of 13,831,900 covering 2,401 square miles. The largest city within the United States is New York, New York with an estimated 8,391,881 people living there.
