Climate change is a change in the earth's climate over a period of time. Though climate change can be caused by changes in the earth's orbit and other global events, 97 out of 100 scientists believe that current changes in Earth's climate, specifically global warming trends, are caused by man-made activity, particularly the burning of fossil fuels. (Proceedings of the Nat'l Academy of Scientists, 2010)

About Climate Change

Climate change refers to any significant global change in climate, such as an increase or decrease in temperature, precipitation, or wind, over extended periods of time.

Climate change may result from natural processes such as changes in solar intensity, changes in the Earth's orbit, oceanic changes or global events such as large volcanic eruptions and cataclysmic meteor strikes (as in the one that may have caused mass extinction of the dinosaurs).

Climate change can also be caused by human activity such as the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, or pollution. When most people think of climate change they think of global warming but climate change covers a broad range of atmospheric changes both natural and artificial.

Manifestations of climate change can include massive floods and other weather extremes.
