Both teams reached the Super Bowl Sunday after grueling matches. The Colts beat the New York Jets 30-17 after trailing at halftime. Indianapolis was led by MVP quarterback Peyton Manning, who threw for 377 yards and 3 touchdowns. The New Orleans Saints are heading to their very first Super Bowl after a 31-28 overtime win over Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. The Saints secured their trip to the Super Bowl with a 40-yard field goal by 23-year-old kicker Garrett Hartley almost 5 minutes into overtime.
This was the first time since 1993 that the No. 1 seeds from each conference faced off at the Super Bowl. The last time the two teams met was in 2007, when the Colts came away with a 41-10 win.
