About Conan O'Brien

Known for: 'Late Night' with Conan O'Brien host from 1993-2009, and his forced resignation from NBC's 'Late Show.'

Conan O'Brien is a television host, personality, and comic writer. Conan started out as a television writer for comedy series such as 'Saturday Night Live' and 'The Simpsons.' In 1993, became host of 'Late Night' succeeding David Letterman. Conan's edgier gags and humor attracted a younger audience than Jay Leno or David Letterman's programs had, setting him apart among evening talk show hosts with a new generation.

In June 2009, Conan took over 'The Tonight Show' from host Jay Leno. Leno then started a new show at 10pm. However, when Leno's show failed to attract an audience, NBC management attempted to get Leno back to his former time slot, and asked Conan to move his show back to 12:05am. The motto Save Coco became a sign of support for O'Brien during the fiasco. But saying he respected 'The Tonight Show' franchise too much to have it move into the following morning, and that that was not the show he dreamed to host, Conan resigned after a much-publicized battle with NBC management. As a result of the changes to his contract, Conan won a $45 million settlement which he shared with his 'Tonight Show' staff.

Conan promised to return to television but due to his contract which was still in effect, he was legally kept from appearing on television. In March 2010 Conan led off the Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television 30-city tour. It was either a massive 30-city tour or start helping out around the house, O’Brien joked in a statement. O'Brien, sidekick Andy Richter, and members of his former 'Tonight Show' band led a night of music, comedy, hugging, and the occasional awkward silence. He sold the tour out in a matter of two weeks just by tweeting his loyal fans (600,000 of them) that followed him on Twitter. As part of his cross-country tour, Conan did an act at the 2010 Bonnaroo festival, where people lined up to hear the comic and listen to his music.

On April 12, 2010 Conan announced he would start a new late night comedy show on the TBS network, starting in November, called 'Conan'. The premier date was finally announced for November 8, 2010, with first guests Seth Rogen, Lea Michele, and musician Jack White.

'Conan' airs Monday through Thursday at 11/10c on TBS.
