About Condom Pregnancy

Condoms are used as a form of birth control, as well as a way to prevent STDs during sex.

Condoms for men are made from a latex, polyurethane, or lambskin which is rolled over the penis. The purpose of a condom is to prevent the transfer of body fluids during sex, whether it's semen from entering the vagina, or blood from entering the anal cavity. They must be thrown away after each use.

Condoms are pretty darn good at preventing pregnancy. In fact, studies show that they are the most reliable form of preventing unwanted pregnancy (after abstinence, of course). If used correctly, they are 98 percent effective. However, sometimes they are used incorrectly and it has been noted that for first-year condom users, the effectiveness rate for preventing pregnancy is only 86 percent. It is important to know how to use a condom correctly and to use before the expiration date to avoid an unwanted pregnancy.

However, sometimes a condom can break, reducing its effectiveness. Be sure to read the directions and never use one that has expired!
