The Da Vinci Code is a book written by Dan Brown, who's an American author. In 2006, Ron Howard directed the movie version of the novel, starring Tom Hanks. Both plot lines revolve around a symbologist, Robert Langdon, who is aiding in a murder investigation and learns of the possibility that Jesus Christ could have fathered a child with mary Magdalene.

About Da Vinci Code

The Da Vinci Code is a 2003 mystery novel written by Dan Brown. It follows symbologists Robert Langdon and Sophie Neveu as they look into a murder at the Louvre in Paris. While they are investigating the murder, they discover a battle between the Priory of Sion and Opus Dei over the possibility of Jesus Christ having been married to and fathering a child with Mary Magdalene. The title of the book refers to the murder victim being found naked and posed like Leonardy da Vinci's Vitruvian Man with a cryptic message beside his body and a pentacle drawn on his chest in his hown blood. The book was believed to be based off of factual evidence which stirred controversy in Christian churches worldwide.

The book is a bestselling novel that has sold over 80 million copies as of last year. It has been translated to 44 different languages. It is Dan Brown's second novel, the first being his 2000 work titled Angels & Demons.

The Da Vinci Code is a 2006 film directed by Ron Howard, which is based on the bestselling 2003 novel written by Dan Brown. Because of the controversial interpretations and factual inaccuracies of Christian history in the book and film, they were criticized by several churches worldwide. Some leaders urged it's members to boycott the film. Many of the early showings of the film were met by protesters waiting outside of movie theaters. Despite its controversy, the film earned over $230 million worldwide in its opening weekend which at the time ranked it as the third largest opening. The movie has since been bumped to seventh. The movie, as of 2006 has earned over $758 million and is Tom Hanks and Ron Howard's most successful film. The soundtrack, composed by Hans Zimmer was nominated for the 2007 Golden Globe for Best Original Score.
