DC Comics is an American comic book publishing company owned by Time-Warner, and world famous for its iconic superheroes and supervillians. DC Comics began in 1934 as National Allied Publications. In 1938, they published the first superhero comic, Action Comics #1, and introduced the eponymous DC superhero Superman. The name DC Comics came from the popular Detective Comics series which debuted Batman in 1939.

DC Comics' famous list of characters include: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Captain Marvel, Aquaman, and many other superheroes and supervillians.

DC Comics Entertainment Inc. is responsible for publishing and merchandising the DC Universe, Vertigo, WildStorm, and Zuda comic lines, as well as MAD Magazine, and for motion picture properties including 'Batman Begins', 'The Dark Knight', 'Superman Returns', 'Red', the TV series 'Smallville', and the animated series 'The Batman'. DC Comics' leading competitor is Marvel Comics.
