Dear John

From the creators of 'The Notebook,' 'Dear John' is a drama and romance starring Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried. Set during the immediately preceding and following the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States, two teenagers live their lives apart when John decides to enlist and ships out to the Middle East.

About Dear John

'Dear John', released February 5, 2010, is a pleasant bit of cinematic fluff from the director Lasse Hallstrom. In 'Dear John,' John Tyree (Channing Tatum), a Special Forces soldier on leave, falls for Savannah Curtis (Amanda Seyfried), a college student. They decide to write each other when John goes back to war. John can't wait to get back to Savannah, but when the 9/11 attacks occur he re-enlists, while Savannah continues her life as a college student. During his hard life as a soldier, John begins to exist only for her next letter.

When she writes him a Dear John letter saying she wants to see another guy, he gets shot, is hospitalized and sent home. Will John's love for Savannah be fulfilled or not? Dear John’ is scoring a 29% (splat) grade on RottenTomatoes.com. But few of us will be able to resist the captivating eye candy of two gorgeous teens suffering in the grip of unrequited love. And what do critics know anyway?

The screenplay is based on the novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks, who is smart enough to know a winning formula when he sees one. With Dear John’ he has continued his run of writing calculatedly romantic novels that the Hollywood machine just can't resist making into movies. His other two major book-to-movie hits were The Notebook’ and Message in a Bottle.’
