Disturbia is a 2007 American thriller slasher film directed by D. J. Caruso and executive produced by Ivan Reitman. It is an updated version of Alfred Hitchcock's classic film Rear Window. Disturbia stars Shia LaBeouf as a teenager who, while confined to house arrest, thinks he has witnessed a murder when spying on his suspicious neighbor, portrayed by David Morse. A year after Kale Brecht's (Shia LaBeouf) father was killed in a car accident, Kale is arrested for attacking a teacher who made a remark about his father. Pleading guilty to the assault charge, the judge sentences Kale to three months of house arrest. He is then secured with an ankle monitor and a proximity sensor which prohibits him from leaving a 100 foot (30 m) radius of his house.
