Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong is one of the oldest platformers out there and one of Nintendo's most popular games. It also was the first time we saw everyone's favorite handyman - Mario!

About Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong is an early platform game released in 1981 and developed by Nintendo. The gameplay focuses on maneuvering the main character across a series of platforms while dodging and jumping over obstacles. The game features a character called Jumpman (later known as Mario) must rescue a damsel in distress, Pauline, from a giant ape named Donkey Kong. The hero and ape later became two of Nintendo's most popular characters.

Winning the game involves getting to the top of the level while dodging objects and obstacles, in order to save the Lady. Points are awarded for finishing screens, jumping over obstacles, destroying objects with a hammer power-up and collecting objects such as hats, parasols, and purses.

Several sequels followed like Donkey Kong Jr. and Donkey Kong 3, as well as the spin-off Mario Bros. A complete re-make of the original arcade game on the Game Boy, named Donkey Kong or Donkey Kong '94 came next

Nintendo breathed new life into Donkey Kong in the 1990s for a series of platform games and spin-offs developed by Rare, beginning with Donkey Kong Country in 1994. Nintendo released Mario vs. Donkey Kong in 2004, a sequel to the Game Boy title. In 2004, Nintendo released the first of the Donkey Konga games, a rhythm-based game series that uses a special bongo controller. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (2005) is a unique platform action game that uses the same bongo controller accessory. In 2007, Donkey Kong Barrel Blast was released for the Nintendo Wii.

Donkey Kong has proven to be an iconic video game that has spawned some of the greatest Nintendo games known.
