Drug Free

Drug Free

Staying drug free is not easy, when peer pressure is such a strong influence on teens. However, if you follow some rules you'll be able to do it. Avoid situations where you know drugs will be consumed, and avoid 'friends' who pressure you to do drugs.

About Drug Free

If you're offered drugs, decline and walk away. Stop before you start. If you're afraid of peer pressure, then know in your heart that your true friends will respect you if you decide to say no to a drug, and they won’t push you into doing something that you don't want to do. If they do, then consider finding a new group of friends.

Watch to see if a family member or friend is taking drugs and stay away from them and don't follow in their footsteps.

Avoid the temptation. If there is a certain group of people at school who are known to do drugs, don't hang around them.

Understand drugs and the situations that may arise. You should always be aware of what's going on around you, and when a situation might arise where the presence of drugs is a possibility. You need to figure out a plan ahead of time for how to deal with these situations. The best thing to do is to excuse yourself from the situation with a valid excuse.

Try to find a fun activity to help occupy your free time. This could be reading, jogging, shopping, playing guitar or video games. It sounds simple, but it is effective.

Steer away from situations where you may be offered drugs. If you're at a party and you realize that there are drugs there then just simply leave. The peer pressure might make you crack, even if you're certain you'll be able to say no.

Find a religion that you agree with on a spiritual basis that condemns drug use, and devoutly practice it.

Go straight edge, this can really help you say no.

Never take drugs. Medicine is also considered a drug that should not be abused.

Be brave and don't be afraid to say NO when you are offered drugs or alcohol.

Be sure to talk to those you trust about your temptation, they'll understand and help you avoid it.

If you have a drug problem talk to a school counselor, or a minister/pastor. Many of them have access to groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Alateen, or N.A. as well as other rehab programs. Help is out there!

Be sure to educate yourself because knowing what can happen is half the battle. D.A.R.E. and Above the Influence can help you understand the possible drugs out there and what they can do to your body.
