Easter Bunny

Easter Bunny

The Easter Bunny is the primary mascot of Easter time - he brings candy to the little children and is a symbol of the springtime to come!

About Easter Bunny

The Easter Bunny is an Easter symbol which seems to have origins in Germany from the 1600's. The hare and the rabbit have been known for their fertility throughout history, and they serve as symbols of new life during the spring season. The bunny as a symbol of Easter was started in Germany because there were writings found that first mentioned it in the 1500s. Edible versions of the character were minted in the early 1800's and were made of pastry and sugar.

The Easter Bunny was introduced in America by the German settlers who arrived in the Pennsylvania area in the 1700's. It was a great pleasure for a child to be visited by the ''Oschter Haws'' (or the Easter Bunny) and children believed if they were good, he would lay a nest of colorful eggs for them. Boys would use their hats and girls, their bonnets, as nests for the Easter Bunny to lay his eggs in. Eggs, like rabbits, are traditional fertility symbols which signify the beginning of Spring, when the Earth comes to life after the Vernal Equinox.
