Electoral Votes

Electoral Votes

Electoral Votes are part of the Electoral College, representatives who formally elect the President and Vice President of the United States of America. Voters in Presidential Elections do not directly vote for the President, instead they vote for electors representing their state. The elector may cast only one vote for President and one vote for Vice-President.

About Electoral Votes

The Electoral College is part of the checks-and-balances systems that the Founders of the Constitution wrote. As such, the idea was that while Congress is popularly elected by the people, the President and Vice-President execute the federation of independent states. Electors are chosen by political parties in advance of Election Day. Electors can not hold federal office.
