Elvis was born in Tupelo, Mississippi and moved with his family at the age of 13 to Memphis, Tennessee. It was his upbringing that gave him a sound so distinct that he was destined for greatness. Elvis wanted to bring the sound of African-American music to a wider base. By infusing country with rhythm and blues he was able to do just that.

Presley signed with RCA Records and released his first single 'Heartbreak Hotel' in 1956. He became the face of Rock and Roll from that point on. He began appearing on network television and releasing chart topping records.

Elvis was drafted into the military in 1958 and served to two years. He came back and launched his career and do his most successful commercial work yet. He began appearing in movies and singing for the soundtracks during the 1960's. In 1968 he returned to the stage to perform live for audiences across the country.
