An almost-full moon lingers above Beijing's fast-developing skyline, 07 November 2006. A Chinese finance ministry investigation has uncovered widespread tax fraud among property companies, who often try to hide their fat profit margins, state media said. The ministry said 39 companies it checked had fraudulently declared an average profit margin of only 12.22 percent in 2005, even though the real profit margin was 26.79 percent, according to Xinhua news agency. The inspection also uncovered a widespread practice among real estate companies of forging contracts to get loans from banks.
