Cuban-American actress Eva Mendes was born in Miami, Florida and raised in Los Angeles, California. First desiring to become a Roman Catholic nun, as a kid Eva never considered becoming an actress. However, with little experience in acting, she dropped out of college to pursue an acting career. Trained by Ivana Chubbick, a leading acting teacher who trained many of Hollywood's biggest names.

In the 1990s, Mendes appeared in numerous low budget movies and smaller roles. But in 2001 she became widely recognized when she starred as Denzel Washington's girlfriend in 'Training Day' (2001). Starring roles in other big productions soon followed, and Mendes' career in a matter of months took off. In 2003, she starred in '2 Fast 2 Furious' (2003), 'Once Upon a Time in Mexico' (2003), and 'Stuck on You' (2003). She also starred in 'Hitch' (2005) alongside Will Smith, and 'Ghost Rider' (2007) with Nicholas Cage.

Mendes began dating filmmaker George Agusto in 2002. In 2008, she was admitted to a Utah rehab facility for substance abuse issues, though in a statement her representative said the issues were ''not critical'' and the facility was mostly to give Mendes time to recover from a busy film schedule.
