Florida Marlins

Florida Marlins

The Florida Marlins are a Major League Baseball team based in Miami, Florida. They play in the National League East Division with the Atlanta Braves, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, and Washington Nationals.

About Florida Marlins

The Marlins are notable for winning the World Series twice (1997, 2003), in the only two times they have made it to the postseason. They have never won first place in their division, advancing to the playoffs both times as the National League Wild Card winner. They are the only current professional sports team to have won a championship every time (twice, in this case) they qualified for postseason play. The Marlins play their home games at Sun Life Stadium, also home to the Miami Dolphins and the University of Miami football team.

The Marlins ownership pushed for a new stadium and recently agreed to a plan with Miami-Dade County commissioners and the city of Miami to build a $515 million ballpark on the site where the legendary Miami Orange Bowl once stood. As part of the deal, the Marlins will, when their new ballpark opens in 2012, be known as the Miami Marlins.
