About Flowers

Flowers are loved by just about everyone, except maybe those with seasonal allergies. The blossoms of many plants have different purposes. Some produce fruit, with some of the flowers themselves are edible, but be careful and be sure you know which are and aren't. Many provide pollen for bees to make honey. Others are simply beautiful and are admired in a garden or used to declare your love to that special person in your life.

In botany, flowers are the reproductive organs of the plant. The male sperm of the plant needs to reach the female ovum in order to allow the plant to produce fruit and seeds. Flowers use both their color and fragrance to attract various animals, birds, and insects to help in the process.

It is important to encourage the wildlife in your area that pollinate your plants. Learning what flowers grow best in your area will allow you to produce a garden that is the envy of the neighborhood.

For humans, flowers have long held special meaning. Different flowers have even been assigned special meanings over the years. By combining different types of flowers with different colors, you can tell a one of a kind message to someone special.

Red has traditionally meant love, especially when it is a red rose. When combined with other flowers, such as Larkspur, you could tell that special one they also have a beautiful spirit. Lilac will be meaningful if they are your first love. If you aren't quite brave enough, yellow chrysanthemums are often sent by secret admirers.
