Foreign Policy

Foreign Policy

Foreign policy is the policy a nation sets forth in conducting its external relations. The strategies are usually focused on safeguarding national interests. Creating foreign policy is usually the job between the President and Secretary of State.

About Foreign Policy

Foreign policy can be conducted in many ways; however there are two main routes: by peaceful cooperation or exploitation of a stronger nation over a weaker nation. An example of peaceful foreign policy is Canada and the US. Canada has supported the US Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and bailed out US auto industries. The US and Canada create millions of jobs with trade between the two nations.

An example of coercive foreign policy is the current situation towards North Korea. North Korea has tested their ability to launch nuclear weapons, to which South Korea and Japan have feared. The US, in turn, has sanctioned the North Koreans and condemned their actions. The goal of the sanctions is to bankrupt the nation's economy, causing internal upheaval to change the current government or forcing the government to abandon it's nuclear ambitions.
